In the Gloaming (trad), featuring Patrick Naylor on guitar and Alex Keen on double bass. Recorded and mixed by Patrick Naylor.
This song is written by one of the few female composers I know of that published in the 19th century - Annie Harrison. I've known and played it for years, but it's only recently that I decided to arrange and perform it on gigs. It's based, they say, on the real life love story of Harrison and Lord Arthur Hill of Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland. They fell in love, but were unable to marry because of class differences. The story goes that it was when Hill coincidentally heard this song years later, about their lost romance, that the two of them were reunited. Whatever the truth of the legend, the two did marry and enjoy 50 years together until Hill's death. So all's well that ends well. Enjoy!
